Montessori Children’s House of Franktown is unique on our peninsula. The only Montessori school on the Shore, MCHF has two mixed-age classrooms. The Primary environment serves children 2 1/2 to 6 years old. The Elementary environment serves children 6 to 9 years old. Each environment is prepared to support the child’s needs for sensory exploration, manipulation, and free movement.
MCHF is housed on the grounds of Franktown United Methodist Church. Both classrooms have a warm and welcoming interior, are well proportioned to their function as a Children’s House and Elementary class, where your child will have individual choice of materials from the areas of Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Math, Geography, History, Science and Art.
In a Christian environment of peace, mutual respect and cooperation, under the guidance of a trained teacher, children work unobstructed by adult interference, at their own individual pace and to their own satisfaction. The materials are attractive, natural, and of their own choosing, once the teacher has introduced them. The outdoor environment includes spaces for vegetable and flower gardens, and a large outdoor play area. The school is housed on beautiful spacious grounds in the quiet, rural hamlet of Franktown.
MCHF has a commitment to Peace Education, as envisioned by Maria Montessori, and to Earth Education, which involves both physical and spiritual facets of stewardship of the Earth.
